In this new monthly community event, Welcome Wednesdays at Chase, the school lives up to the vision of the Community Learning model by inviting Northside residents who are doing wonderful work in Cincinnati and beyond to share. Set up in an interview format, a member of the Chase LSDMC will engage the featured guests with a set of questions about inspirations, specific works, and when appropriate, guests will read from their books, or share poetry or performance connected to their body of work. The event is open to all, family-friendly, and will be a great way to provide ongoing community engagement and investment in Chase Elementary. As much as possible, they hope to connect these events with neighborhood businesses.

A Northside resident, Dani McClain reports on race and reproductive health. She is a contributing writer at The Nation and a fellow with Type Media Center (formerly the Nation Institute). McClain's writing has appeared in outlets including The Atlantic, Time, Slate, Talking Points Memo, Colorlines, EBONY.com and The Rumpus. In 2018, she received a James Aronson Award for Social Justice Journalism. Her work has been recognized by the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association, the National Association of Black Journalists and Planned Parenthood Federation of America. McClain was a staff reporter at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and has worked as a strategist with organizations including Color of Change and Drug Policy Alliance. McClain’s book, "We Live for the We: The Political Power of Black Motherhood," was published in 2019 by Bold Type Books (formerly Nation Books).

The December 11 launch event will be hosted by Tim'm T. West and the outreach sponsor is DownBound Books, Northside.
